Greetings from a sunny Cape Town!
For those who don't know us, we are Wesley & Carmen Heber, the doting parents of a wonderful 13 year old daughter, Isabella.
Most of you will know that Isabella is an avid golfer. She has played competitively since she was 6 years old. She has won numerous junior tournaments with SA Kids Golf, Anna's Squirrels and in the WP junior divisions.
She has travelled a bit around the country to play in various tournaments mostly on sponsorships.
In 2021, she went as far as her bag of 2nd hand clubs would take her. We were advised by her coaches that she required a fitted set. As her parents, we then went on the hunt to find affordable solutions. We were somewhat unsuccessful in this tedious exercise. So much so, that on the recommendation of one of her coaches, we approached Global Golf for a payment plan. They were so impressed with her, that they offered to sponsor her with a fully fitted set! Despite the clubs she played with, she had some notable achievements in 2021, namely:
Club Champion- C Division- KD Mowbray- 2021
Winner- Ackerman- C Division- 2021
Champ of Champs- Regional- C Division - Winner- 2021
Champ of Champs- National- C Division- 2nd Place - 2021 (youngest ever to make this level and place)
As she settled into her new clubs, she focused on her fitness, technical skill and academics in 2022 not really playing too competitively.
In April this year, she was capped & selected to represent the Ladies WP Squad at the National Ladies 72 Hole Tournament. It is notable to mention that she has been a member of the junior girls squad since she was 8 years old and received junior colors last year.
Her notable wins for 2023 in an open age group category are as follows:
Club Champion- Championship Division - Royal Cape- 2023
Winner - Silver Division - WP Amateurs - 2023 ( Stroke Play)
Winner - Silver Division- WP Amateurs - 2023 (Match Play)
This year has also seen Isabella received a full academic bursary to Milnerton High School after being noticed at the WP High School League that she has played in for the past 2 years (representing a 'combined' high school girls team) despite still being at junior school. Last year she helped the team to achieve the gold medal and this year they won the bronze medal in the B division. She is extremely excited to be joining the "Millies" 1st Golf team when she joins them for Grade 8 in the 2024 New Year.
In the most recent developments of this amazing journey, Isabella has been selected to the National Squad (C Division) and in order to maintain this selection as well as to remain eligible to be selected to represent South Africa on a national level (Olympic Squad 2028) , she needs to compete in certain compulsory tournaments country wide. This will amount to at least 4 trips in 2024.
While we as her parents work really hard and sacrifice so much, the time has come for us to reach out to our tribe for support.
We are desperately trying to raise funds for traveling and accommodation as these are not team events and traveling arrangements and costs are for the player's own account.
We will be attempting to raise funds in many other forms as well however our timeline is extremely challenging- the first trip is scheduled for February 2024!
We would sincerely appreciate any donation, big or small, that can help our daughter achieve the dream that she has had since she was 10 years old- to be an Olympian!
