At the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR), our mission is to provide hope to hundreds of South Africans battling blood diseases like leukemia, by expanding and diversifying our registry to benefit all in need of a lifesaving bone marrow stem cell transplant. Since our establishment in 1991, we have been committed to addressing the global concern that life-saving bone marrow transplants were only available to patients with a matching donor in their family.

Today, the SABMR searches both locally and internationally for donors, making collaboration with international registries and observing universal standards of practice essential. As an internationally recognized registry and a member of the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA), we take pride in being the only fully accredited unrelated stem cell donor registry in South Africa and Africa.

Sadly, for approximately 70% of patients in need of a bone marrow transplant, a matched unrelated donor is their only hope. At the SABMR, we strive to be that hope for these patients by continuing to grow and diversify our registry through education, fundraising, and patient support.
