Personal message

1 week to go before the Cape Town Cycle Tour! We, at Ikamva Labantu, are delighted to have two of our staff members riding in this world class race on 12 March 2017.

Lucky and Champion, our dedicated maintenance men, have been part of the Ikamva Labantu family for twelve and nine years respectively. They will be riding the 109km race alongside a team of 8 others to raise funds for Ikamva Labantu.

It will be Lucky Sofute’s first race this weekend and the 39-year-old says he is “excited to do something that will benefit the organisation.’’ Champion Mkontwana, 49, has completed the race twice before and is ready to take it on for the third time.

Charity Default Logo

In the early 1960s, Helen Lieberman and other courageous activists responded to the unjust conditions of South African Apartheid by setting up survival initiatives in the Western Cape. In 1992, the coordination of these initiatives was formalised and Ikamva Labantu, meaning “Future of The People”, was launched as a non-governmental and non-profit organisation. Ikamva Labantu’s work focuses on early childhood development, the well-being of older persons and after-school initiatives that keep children safe and off the streets.
