On Monday 04 December 2017, the Weber family suffered an unthinkable tragedy. Their beautiful son, Connor, fell into a bin they were using to collect water due to the severe drought, and he drowned. Connor was resuscitated and taken to the Red Cross Children's Hospital. The next 5 days were a horrible rollercoaster of emotions, but one thing remained constant and that was the amazing medical treatment Connor received and the compassion and care the family always felt from the hospital staff. Connor sadly passed away on Saturday 09 December 2017. He would be turning three on 17 February 2019.

Following Connor's passing, Dan (Connor's dad) has not been able to stop thinking about their time in the Red Cross ICU and the staff who work there.

The staff often work 30 hour shifts and yet they were always helpful and eager to listen. They cried with the family, prayed with the family and treated Connor as if he was the only child in the ward. This was not only applicable to him though - they treated every child in that way.  

We will be part of a group of runners in #teamjustbreathe at the annual Wild Coast Challenge in February 2019. A 3 day trail run along the old Transkei coastline. This is no ordinary run with the distances on each day being 40km, 35km and 45km for a total of 120km over 3 days!!!
