Personal message
My buddy Sahir Maharaj (on the left) has been riding for about 3 years, successfully completing many extreme cycling races. He has a lot of experience on all of the big road race events, namely The Cape Argus (Cape Town Cycle Tour), Telkom94.7, Emperors Palace race of Dreams, Value Logistics – The Fast one, the Berg and Dale and many other challenging events hosted by ASG and other organizations including the sanctioned Cycle Lab outrides.
I’ve been riding the occasional trail and outride races as a hobby but since riding with him, it has opened a new world of adventure and experience to seasoned MTB events. Over the past 2 years we have completed many MTB races, namely the Hollard JUMA 54km, Van Gaalens Cheese run 96km, 94.7 MTB Challenge 55km, the WTF MTB Challenge 60km, most of the USN series 55 km events and the Nissan Trail Seekers 55km events.
In an effort to improve the experience and get access to more adventure, we decided to enter the KAP Sani2C Stage event and were successfully selected. These entries are placed on a waiting list and selections take place on a random basis, hence the excitement is overwhelming to be part of this adventurous 3 days of amazing trails though KZN, from the majestic mountains of Sani Pass, Southern Drakensberg to the lapping shores of the warm Indian Ocean at Scottburgh Beach, KZN South Coast covering 263km with a combined ascent of 3722m in altitude over the duration.
As this one of the most sought after Stage MTB events in our country, we have added a few more like the Wine 2 Whales, Lesotho Sky, Berg and Bush, Joberg2C and other challenging events to prepare as for the much aspired Absa Cape Epic which hopefully, we will be able to ride someday but this is not the only reason for all this participation.
Collectively, we have opted not to race, but rather enjoy, adventure and experience more trails and in doing that, make a difference to those not fortunate enough to have this wonderful choices to make.
So, we will be riding the KAP Sani2C for fun in an attempt to make it beneficial for someone else – having ridden before for charity’s like The Shine foundation and others. We have now decided to support The Smile Foundation. We were fortunate enough to have been sponsored by the Owner of Gemelli Restaurant, Bryanston who when I made mention to about partnering and having The Smile Foundation branding included with his branding on our cycling jerseys in an attempt to raise some funds for the Smile Organization, he was more than happy to be part of this great initiative.
We’re extremely excited to do this ride and hopefully generate a sizable amount in donations to contribute to the great work that the Smile Foundation does daily!
