Personal message

I run, not because I have anywhere to go, not to win anything, and not for anyone else.I run because I have been given the ability to do so and blessed with a body that can.

As I take on the Comrades Marathon Hope Challenge, I am mindful of those little humans fighting their cancer, who would give anything to run, to be out in the fresh air with the sun on their face, taking it all in and I take on this challenge for them.

 I am not known for being the smartest person when it comes to taking on things bigger than myself – I often do not train enough and do things just because someone said, let us do that, but I am known for being someone who will give absolutely everything to make sure I get it done, not letting myself or those who support me down, ever. I participate with my heart, not just my body.

I have given myself a proper task this time around, but I aim to reach both the kilometers needed and my target by the 13th  of June, giving myself just 12 days and some hours. I do this all for Rainbows and Smiles and for the children and families who need our help – I say our because we could not any of what we do without you.

The mission of Rainbows and Smiles is to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family is diagnosed with a life threatening illness such as cancer. In addition, Rainbows and Smiles encourage childhood cancer awareness to educate in the hope of promoting early detection.
