I am raising funds for my son, Paralympic Para-cyclist, Goldy Fuchs, who is training hard for this year’s international racing season. Goldy acquired his disability when he was a 5-months-old baby, because of a car accident in which he suffered severe head injuries.

He has participated in numerous international competitions for South Africa, but due to a self-funding policy introduced by Cycling SA since 2017, he has to pay for all his international competitions himself.

After winning the Men's T2 classification in great style at the Cycling SA National Championships, held during February 2024, Goldy's international competitions for this year will be as follows:

1. UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup from 2 to 5 May 2024 in Ostend, Belgium. Goldy will compete in Ostend to accumulate points for SA that will go towards possible slots for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. Costs include – Flights to and from Brussel, travel insurance, Visa application, car hire & petrol, accommodation, food, mechanic, entry fees and accreditation = Total of R48 000.

2. UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships from 21 – 29 September 2024 in Zürich, Switzerland.

If Goldy is selected to represent South Africa at the World Championships, he will also have to pay for his own tour, due to the self-funding policy by Cycling SA.

Costs will include flights to and from Zürich, travel insurance, car rental & petrol, accommodation, food, manager/mechanic, entry fees and accreditation. Total of R70 000.
