There is nothing scarier than the knowledge that one’s time is rapidly running out due to a diagnosis of critical stage 4 lung cancer. A prognosis that not only guarantees a very short life expectancy, but also disables one’s ability to afford the reasonable care required to assist one in living with this debilitating, oxygen-thieving curse. Especially when you receive only a government grant and have no medical aid…

Through a recent, very successful BackaBuddy campaign, a portable oxygen generator had been provided to Georg V Nagel for which he is forever grateful. In fact, with a little negotiation and some additional help from friends, the funds garnished was sufficient to secure him a bed in an ACWA (ACVV) care facility in Mossel Bay for a few months. 

Georg has become accustomed to the "inmates" and helpful staff at "Ons Huis Seebries", receives 3 meals per day with tea and coffee, and is assisted in any medical, physical and hygiene requirements.

January was an extremely stressful month for Georg, as he had no guarantee of a roof over his head in February. Fortunately, a friend was able to help with a once-off payment towards his accommodation for this month. It would be a shame should he lose his bed in this facility to have to spend his last days on street... especially since it took great effort to secure him a bed where there are so many people on their waiting list.

NO ILLNESS IS TOLERANT OF UNNECESSARY STRESS AND THE ANXIETY THAT IT GENERATES IN A VERY SICK PATIENT

Georg is a dear friend of mine, and I would like to help make his last days/weeks/months on Earth as comfortable and as stress-less as possible.

His monthly expenses borders on 12K (ZAR) per month whilst he only receives 2.2K per month from his SASSA government grant, thus, his requirement is ongoing till he passes on. Therefore the 200K final target which I doubt he would need unless he makes a Miraculous recovery. The aim is to cover his costs on a monthly basis until he no longer requires assistance.

I am in daily contact with him and will end this campaign the moment he no longer needs it.

Every drop eventually fills the bucket, no matter how big or small it is. May you be blessed tenfold with whatever you drop into Georg's bucket!
