Franco is our darling little rainbow baby after losing his brother, Hanru in February 2023 at 22 weeks gestation. 

On the 17th of October, 2023 I had mild contractions. My husband and I went straight to the hospital and our hearts shattered when we heard the words "preterm labour" and "incompetent cervix" . 
 
I was admitted in hospital and at that stage I was 23 weeks 5 days. I was on hospital bedrest for exactly 2 weeks. On the 31st of October 2023 Franco was born via emergency c section at the gestation of 25 weeks 5 days weighing only 875g. He was categorized as a micro preemie.
 
He has been in the NICU for the past 65 days. He has had 6 blood transfusions so far, and many, many blood tests performed. He also suffers from sleep apnea and is currently still on oxygen which helps him with his breathing. His eye specialist performs eye tests weekly seeing that the blood vessels in his eyes are developing slowly. We are not sure when Franco will be ready to be discharged from hospital. 
 
Our medical aid however does not cover all of the costs. We have large amounts of co payments that we have to cover. The hospital where Franco is receiving his care is also a 40 minute drive from our home. So financially we are doing everything that we can but unfortunately we are struggling to attend to everything. 
 
The funds raised will be used to cover all of the outstanding medical bills and everything Franco needs while still in the NICU.

We are currently on day 81 of our NICU journey. He currently weighs 2.2kg and had his feeding tube removed.  Franco has stage 2 ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) and had laser treatment on both eyes this past week. He also contracted COVID 19 and tested positive this morning.

On October 31, 2023, Franco, our beacon of hope, arrived via emergency c-section at 25 weeks 5 days, weighing a delicate 875g - a micro preemie.

His journey has been a rollercoaster in the NICU for the past 65 days, marked by 6 blood transfusions, countless tests, sleep apnea, and an ongoing need for oxygen. Week by week, Franco's eyes are carefully monitored for development, adding to the uncertainty of when he'll be ready to leave the hospital. Despite our utmost efforts, the financial strain is overwhelming. Our medical aid falls short, and the hospital's distance from home only adds to the challenges.

We turn to you, our extended family, to help us raise funds to cover outstanding medical bills and support Franco's needs during his time in the NICU. Your kindness is a lifeline, bringing comfort to our little warrior and easing the burdens we carry.
