Elna Huisamen is well known to all of us that owns a holiday home in Paternoster and today we want to celebrate Elna's life.  
 
Her life has been profoundly affected by a serious gastrointestinal condition – a perforated bowel – which nearly took her life in 2023. Although surgery saved her, it left her with lengthy recovery periods, confined to her bed.
 
A gastrointestinal perforation occurs when a hole forms in the stomach, bowel, or small intestine. In Elna's case, a perforation developed in her bowel, along with a hole in her intestine, after carrying heavy gas bottles. This condition led to a severe inflammation known as peritonitis, as the contents of her intestines leaked into her abdominal cavity. Currently, Elna relies on an ostomy bag, which significantly impacts her daily life.
 
Elna had been admitted to a state hospital but needs to return for a colon reattachment. However, the process is far from easy. State hospitals face extensive waiting lists, overcrowding, and understaffing, which prolongs her wait for the necessary procedure. Additionally, Elna lost her long-term job, making it financially impossible for her to cover the cost of the operation, which amounts to approximately R200,000.
 
I humbly request your financial support to help Elna receive the operation she desperately needs. She is a hard-working, kind-hearted individual, a loving mother of three, and a proud grandmother of two. This operation has the potential to greatly improve her quality of life and even save her life. Elna never complains despite her hardships.
