The Grow Africa Foundation presents the CWF-Elephant collar Project
The fight and the victory for the success of our wildlife and its future is one that
cannot be fought alone. Wildlife in Africa is not just for the people of Africa but should
be seen as a Global Asset.
The Conservation and Wildlife Fund (CWF) is a collaborative group of
conservationists and stakeholders in the Hwange National Park region who take
action on critical conservation issues affecting the area.
Currently, the most critical issue is illegal poaching, and through the CWF we are
focused on funding additional equipment for an anti-poaching unit. The wildlife of
Africa is an incredibly precious resource that needs to be protected at all costs. For
that reason this project deals with radio-collaring of large elephant bulls.
What is the Elephant collar Project about?
Now that elephant populations are seriously under threat in many areas, there is a
widely-held belief that if larger bulls with heavy ivory are radio-collared, this will
protect them from either being taken on safari hunts (legal hunting) or being poached
(illegal hunting).
This will reduce the effect of trophy hunting on large-tusked bulls (the wildlife
authority in Zimbabwe can issue a moratorium on the hunting of specific animals
fitted with radio-collars) and adds a very valuable wildlife research component as
well.
Why the Elephant collar Project?
Africa and its wildlife are under serious threat more so today than ever. We are at a
crucial time where statistics show that in the last three years over 100,000 elephants
have been killed (Stop Ivory, 2015), there are as few as 12,000 lions left in Southern
Africa (ICUN et al., 2015) and our Rhino population is almost extinct (Save the
Rhino.org, 2016).
This is a continuous pattern that needs to be stopped. To take action, concerned
conservationists and stake holders of Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park region
have created a collaborative group and formed a not-for profit Trust, namely the
Conservation & Wildlife Fund (CWF).
The Grow Africa Foundation strongly believes in responsible tourism and leaving a
positive impact. This is why are involved with funding projects of the CWF.
How do I get involved?
Through donations, our aim is to purchase an additional elephant collar to protect the
South African elephant, which is an increasingly threatened species because of poaching.
We will also use donations to fund further equipment for the anti-poaching-unit in
order to protect those rare animals. If you would like to donate more, we would be extremely grateful!

The Grow Africa Foundation

Grow Africa is the responsible tourism initiative started by Jenman African Safaris and Hideaways. The main focus is to make a positive impact on the environment, society and economy in the places we travel to. We do this by supporting local communities, and building environmental and cultural awareness.
