Personal message
ProSEED provides necessary support and opportunities to young people as they make the transition from Child and Youth Care Centres at 18. We have chosen the name ProSEED to reflect the way in which we support young people in moving forward in their lives – we believe that they have all they need inside themselves to grow to their full potential.
The programme runs over a 3-year period, providing support in the last 18 months as they prepare to leave the Child and Youth Care Centre and on-going support for up to 18 months once they have returned to their community. This continued support has shown to be vital for their sustained growth, especially once they have moved on from the CYCCs. Mamelani has focused on three areas of development with youth, namely, Building a positive identity, Strengthening relationships and Nurturing resilience. Our work with youth is not a quick fix approach to challenges facing young people but rather a slower process in which young people stand at the centre of their own development.
A group of 21 young people started their journey in the ProSeed Programme in 2015 and are now reaching the 3 year mark. We want to celebrate and mark this 3 year journey through a Rites Of Passage Process. This is a big part of the work that we do with young people, through celebrating and marking moments young people experience a sense of growth and mastery.
Our Idea for this camp involves doing a road trip with the youth to Cederberg. This will be our first time camping in the Cederberg!
We hope to use the time in the Cederberg to explore the area with the youth through hiking.
The time in the Cederberg surrounded by its majestic mountains, will give us an opportunity to slow down, connect and explore together the ways in which the group has grown together and as individuals.
In order to support his group with the fundraising efforts, one of the youth in the group, Adjmal will be running 450 km between 14 May – 28 June. He aims to run 50 km per week! Please support Adjmal in his effort to make this camp a possibility!
We plan to use the money raised through back buddy to pay for things like transport, food and accommodation. We are unfortunately working on a limited budget as a group and through our efforts to raise funds we could plan an EPIC CAMP!
