I visited Dr. van Schalkwyk at Medi-Clinic Trichardt. Everything is arranged for the operation. The procedure is called Urethroplasty Reconstruction Surgery. The cost of the doctors are R15 000-00 and the hospital is R45 000-00. Plus provision must be made for the possibility of going back to theater if there is complications.

I am a 41 year old male, married with two children.  Due to my health problems I am unemployed. In order to keep myself busy I started the Community in Blue in Blinkpan/Koornfontein and Komati area. Since the CIB was formed numerous arrests was made in order to safeguard our community. Me and my team are still actively involved in fighting crime in our area despite my health issues.

Early in 2023 my health problems started. The toes of my left foot started turning blue. After spending months at various state hospitals in the area I at last find some help at Steve Biko where they discovered a blood clot behind my left knee. Due to the delay in treatment I have to have my left foot amputated just where my toes started.

It was discovered then that I am also having Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 5 which means my kidney function is between 4 and 17%.  In September 2023 I start experiencing problems with my urinary system. A Suprapubic catheter has been inserted in my stomach and since then I struggle to get a booking for the operation that needs to be done at a state hospital to remove the blockage. I paid several visits to both hospitals without any success. Steve Biko can only help me with a follow up appointment on 27 May 2024 and a follow up appointment at Witbank Hospital only in July 2024. 

Last week the catheter come out of my stomach and I was rushed to Witbank Hospital where they only put it back.  Since then I am in severe pain and a lot of blood and cloths are coming out into the catheter bag. I was then told by Dr. Mazibuko from Witbank Hospital Urology Department that they might only be able to do my operation in 2 years’ time if I am lucky. It is then that I realized that if I want to survive, I have to raise funds to go to a private doctor.  With the help of my mother we managed to get an appointment at a urologist. Our main concern was to start the process towards the operation.  This we manage to achieve.

I still have a long way to recovering and raising money for the operation but thanks to everyone donating I can at least start with the process and get help.  May God bless you abundantly.
