Our daughter, Danica, was diagnosed with a rare and unknown eye condition in 2017 at the age of 12. What was supposed to be a routine check up, turned into an extremely difficult few months of uncertainty.

We found out that she was blind in her right eye and her left eye has fluid behind her optic nerve, which if not treated could lead to her going blind. She has eye injections on a monthly basis to try keep the fluid out of her central vision. There has been a few times over the years where she was on the verge of losing her eye sight, but through prayer and our Dr not giving up has managed to keep it at bay.

Weeks of tests, scans and a trip to Johannesburg eye clinic left us with still no answers. Our wonderful specialist, Dr De Boer, has sent her unique case to various doctors all over the world, and her case has them stumped.

She has been getting eye injections now for 5 years and even though it is keeping her eye stable, they are trying to find an alternative to the continuous injections, as the continuous injections are damaging the gel behind her eye.

 

There is a special laser that gets done in Cape Town. The dye needs to be specially imported from overseas and our medical aid does not cover the cost for this. They are not sure if this will cure her condition, but we and the Dr’s are willing to try.

 

We will be having a few fund raising events to cover part of the costs for the medical bills.

 

We will appreciate any and all who help us with our fund raising.

An update on Danica's condition.

We have seen the specialist, and unfortunately the dye is no longer available. They will be trying a new injection that has been used by overseas specialists for the past year. The Doctors have confirmed that they might be able to do the lazer without the dye. But as she only has 1 eye they are abit hesitant.

We will apply to our medical aid and pray that they will cover the costs for it to be ordered from overseas.
