Gert Runs the Berlin Marathon 2024 Campaign
Hi There! My name is Gert Thys, the current South African Marathon record holder.
Born and raised in the humble town of Prieska,I have sculpted my running career one kilometre at a time, and after 25 years I still hold the South African Marathon record.
My running Journey began in 1985 at the tender age of 13 years. I have ran both locally and at international level as an elite, met and competed with the best in world, became a 2 times Olympian and participated at the World Marathon Championship. During the journey I faced many challenges and hurdles including racial discrimination,lack of recognition from sports administrations and peers and economic hardships,and ill-health to mention a few.
Despite the challenges faced, I still take pride in every achievement I've attained. My journey has been a testament to resilience and determination, shaping me into the athlete I am today.
As I near the completion of my ABBOT World Marathon Majors running journey, the next race on my agenda is the prestigious Berlin Marathon in September 2024.
Please help me realise my dream of getting the 6th Star of the ABBOTT World Marathon Majors in Berlin this year. Any support is greatly appreciated!
