Gert Runs the Berlin Marathon 2024

Hi There! My name is Gert Thys, the current South African Marathon record holder.
Born and raised in the humble town of Prieska,I have sculpted my running career one kilometre at a time, and after 25 years I still hold the South African Marathon record.

My running Journey began in 1985 at the tender age of 13 years. I have ran both locally and at international level as an elite, met and competed with the best in world, became a 2 times Olympian and participated at the World Marathon Championship.

During the journey I faced many challenges and hurdles.The unfoseen also happened  during  my athletics prime time that led to my financial  difficulties till  current  time. The fulfilment  of one of my dreams was to part take  in the Berlin Marathon. My passion for athletics never diminished. 

I am humbly reaching  out to the sports community&fraternity,friends  and anyone who can to support me in achieving this lasting  opportunity  and part take at this years 50th  Berlin  

My journey has been a testament to resilience and determination, shaping me into the athlete I am today.
