Marlize prostese Campaign

In October 2021, I underwent a quadruple heart bypass, followed by a December infection in my sternum that required the removal of wires. The healing process was challenging, involving a vacuum on my open wound and weekly care. After almost four months, the vacuum, named Edward, was finally removed.

Just when I thought everything was improving, I faced new wounds that refused to heal – one on my right ring finger and two on my left foot's toes. After struggling for about a month, I woke up one morning with two black toes, and my heart stopped. I kept silent, trying to handle it on my own until my partner noticed and rushed me to the hospital. Doctors initially suggested waiting for the condition to improve on its own, but I insisted on surgery. My two toes and part of my ring finger were amputated.

During a prolonged hospital stay, I began experiencing silent epileptic seizures. Eventually, we went to the seaside, hoping for a peaceful environment to aid recovery, but another nightmare unfolded – a further infection in my right ring finger, leading to more amputations.I transitioned from one doctor to another, but my spirit was already broken. Despite a period of stability, two toes on my right foot became problematic. The doctor decided to amputate them along with another toe on my left foot.

In total, I lost 2 fingers and 5 toes. However, the doctor's decision to amputate my foot halfway brought a turning point – all other wounds, which I had struggled with for almost a year, began to heal. The infection was finally over. I had won the battle! Recovery involved learning to walk without crutches, regaining balance, and adapting to a new normal. Despite challenges, I walk, though I still lose balance and fall frequently, and I drive, thankfully using an automatic car.

I am now seeking assistance to afford a prosthetic to improve my walking ability and alleviate self-consciousness. Medical aid won't cover the costs, and my preferred prosthetic is expensive. After numerous medical bills, my savings are depleted, and I had to stop working due to frequent hospital visits.

Any contribution, even as little as R10, would greatly help me regain a sense of normalcy in my life.
