In the heart of Mitchells Plain, a close-knit community, lived Ian James Fillies—a man whose infectious laughter once echoed through every corner, bringing smiles to those around him. But beneath his jovial facade lay a battle unseen, a struggle with the depths of major depression that consumed him whole.

Ian's journey was one marked by highs and lows, but through it all, his two young children remained his beacon of light—their laughter, their innocence, a reminder of the beauty that still existed in his world.

Yet, on the 8th of February 2024, the weight of Ian's burdens became too heavy to bear. In a moment of despair, he made the tragic decision to end his own life, leaving behind a shattered family, engulfed in grief and grappling with the harsh reality of their loss. As news of Ian's passing spread throughout the community, an outpouring of sorrow and disbelief swept through the streets of Mitchells Plain.

We as family, devastated by the loss of our beloved son, brother, and friend, we find ourselves facing yet another challenge.
