Lara Biology Olympiad Kazakhstan Campaign
We are the very proud parents of Lara Strydom, a grade 12 scholar at Hermanus high school.
Last year Lara participated in the first round of the National Science Olympiad and was short-listed for selection to represent South Africa at the 35th International Biology Olympiad to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Having to study for the Olympiad during the December school holidays was no easy task and many sacrifices had to be made, but Lara was adamant and stuck it out.
On the 15th of February 2024, the twenty two (22) selected learners wrote a final selection test and Lara was selected as one of the four students to represent South Africa. As Life Sciences is Lara's favourite school subject, this is a dream come true for her.
The team will leave South Africa on the 6th of July 2024 and return on the 15th of July 2024.
The full cost of the trip (includes air tickets, registration, accommodation, meals and excursions) is about R48 000 per student (depending on exchange rates and ticket prices).
Taking part in the International Biology Olympiad will be of great benefit to Lara's future career in the medical field, as it brings together students from all around the world, challenging and stimulating their curiosity in the biosciences:
