Khazimla Malinde Campaign

Khazimla lives in Masiphumelele, an informal township on the Southern Peninsula of Cape Town. She is 5 years old, and her family resides in an informal structure in an area known as the wetlands, an extension of Masiphumelele. During the winter, this area often gets very wet.

Formerly known as Site 5, Masiphumelele was established in the early 1990s to accommodate people from Khayelitsha and nearby squatter camps. Originally designed for 750 families, the township has grown rapidly, with unofficial estimates of up to 30,000 residents from various backgrounds, including the Eastern Cape, other parts of South Africa, Somalia, Zimbabwe, and neighboring countries. This population growth has led to the construction of shacks around the brick houses, worsening living conditions. Winter brings colder temperatures, rain, and a risk of flooding, particularly in the wetlands, while summer presents a fire hazard. The township also faces social and medical challenges common to informal settlements.

With your help, we hope to reach our goal which is to raise sufficient funds to cover Khazimla's educational expenses for Grade-R at a reputable school in the Southern Peninsula for the year 2024.
