Masiphumelele, formerly known as Site 5, was established in the early 1990s to provide shelter for those overflowed from Khayelitsha and nearby squatter camps. Originally designed for 750 families, the township has grown rapidly, now unofficially estimated to be home to as many as 30,000 residents from diverse backgrounds.
One of the pressing issues in South Africa, and indeed in communities like Masiphumelele, is the struggle to access proper education. The education system in South Africa faces numerous challenges, including overcrowded classrooms, limited resources, and language barriers. Khazimla, at her young age, cannot yet speak English, which is often the medium of instruction in schools. This language barrier can pose a significant obstacle to her educational development.
Our goal is to raise enough funds to cover the cost of Khazimla's education for Grade-R at a reputable school in the Southern Peninsula for the year 2024. By supporting her education, we aim to provide her with opportunities to overcome these challenges and access a quality education that will empower her future.
