Chantelize, a lovely young lady of 14 years loves horses and horse riding was savagely attacked and bitten by a neighbours stallion. The deep wound needs a skin graft.

Timeline.

29th December 2023 - The stallion bit Chantelise 

Midvaal Casualty stabilised the wound. Then on to the Steve Bico Hospital, surgeon stitched a bit , said to return Monday also said skin graft was necessary.

1st Jan. 2024. Corned Hospital, treated Wound. Quoted the 300000.00.(needed funds up front).. said to see if the skin survives, then no skin grafts needed.

4 January 2024 Bad News, The skin had died.. Back to Steve Bico, on Monday  8th January.

8 January 2024 8am - No beds at Steve Bico.

8 January 2024 11am Wound clinic in Three rivers., the wound needs to be cleaned under annesthetic soonest.

8 January afternoon appointment with surgeon to discuss and arrange for theatre procedure 

9th January 2024. Theater, cleaning and debriment .. removal of all dead tissue, so that granulation process can happen. 

10 January 2024

Wound cleaning done yesterday. 

Chantelize is to stay in Hospital, then on Friday (12Jan) theater again for the an initial skin graft. The muscle is exposed so the graft has to happen as soon as possible.

11th Jan Wound opened, doctor satisfied, so tomorrow to go ahead with the skin graft.

Chantelize had to make the decision where to take the skin for graft, her back, thigh, or butt.. There will be more Pain in the place where the skin is to taken, than in the area it will be grafted. 

12th January 

Second operation for the skin graft, two pieces of skin was harvested from Chantelize's right thigh.. (Chantelize had to decide where the harvest would be from as the harvested area would have a permanent scar. Chantelize chose her right thigh as she said "her right thigh is her strong thigh" and when she saw the scars, on her arm and her thigh she will "remember she is strong". 

Chantelize will go home this morning and will need to go back to the doctor on Thursday, her arm is in a cast til then and she may not return to school yet. 

Wednesday17 January 2024

Chantelize is recovering at home, Her arm was placed in a cast so that the skin graft could be kept as quiet as possible. Chantelize says the pain is bearable. She is feeling strong and is displaying great faith.

18th January.Tremendous news the 2 grafts have taken. 

6th February

Cast came off, Chantelize cannot bend her arm, She needs physio therapy as her muscles memory is gone and she will need to relearn full use of her arm.

7th February 

Wound clinic says Chantelle's wound is healing very well, there are few open spaces. All the staples have been removed. 

Chantelize had her first day back at school , she may not carry her school bag.

Specialist visit to plan the way forward.

Funds needed will be less than first anticipated as the skin graft was succesful. 

Just needing physiotherapy and my hope is that both Chantelize and her sister go for trauma counciling.
