Dear Dogtowners
 
At Dogtown, we invest a great deal of money and time in each of our special Rescues.  Most of them come from other shelters where they are considered difficult and hard-to-home.  We are their last chance.  Most have been abused in some form or another.  They come to us broken but we have the expertise to put them back together again.  Our adoption rate is low in comparison to other animal-welfare organisations, and only recently we decided to charge a nominal adoption fee of R650, which in no way covers the funds invested by us in terms of sterilization, vaccination, deworming, chipping and often expensive surgery.  But our ethos remains constant – we commit to each of our 155 dogs for life, whether they are eventually adopted from us or not.  The dogs often come to us advanced in age, so we created a ‘Retirement Village’ for these golden oldies called Shady Pines.  Each Dogtown resident receives individual love, diet, mental stimulation, rehabilitation and training.
 
But we can only maintain our high standards of care with your help.  We still have to finish building our penultimate village (15 gardens), and the final one needs to be constructed from scratch.  Then we need to surround these gardens with security fencing before we can move the remainder of our dogs from Midrand to their forever home in Hennops.  We need to rid ourselves of the R10,000 burden of monthly rent we are currently paying.
