Recently the NSPCA walked into a house of horrors – with a warrant – and found over 100 lions and other big cats living a nightmare. These majestic animals, icons of Africa that are meant to roam free over vast ranges, were confined in overcrowded, filthy and parasitic conditions, some with no water – and all with no escape.

If that’s not enough to make your blood boil, the lions were riddled with parasites – 27 had mange. Even the babies weren’t spared: we had to remove two cubs that couldn’t walk and seemed to have brain damage.

Now, they’re in the care of a specialist wildlife vet and are slowly making progress. But their journey to health and freedom will be long – and expensive – which is why we need your help.

It’s going to take at least six months to begin to repair the damage caused by malnutrition and meningo-encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and will take loads of nutritious food, supplements, veterinary tests, ongoing check-ups and medicines.

But their ultimate recovery will be worth every cent – because it will be a victory .... for the lions and for every person who stands up in support of them.
