Please help Melody Titus, a caretaker of the elderly, fix her little house. Last year, this angel took a call from a tearful stranger (myself, Marie-Louise). My 83-year-old father-in-law, Danie Steyn, urgently needed a professional carer. Danie had just lost his daughter, Louise, with whom he'd been living in Pretoria. Two days after his daughter's memorial service, Danie was hospitalized for a scary neurological incident. Suddenly, he needed around-the-clock help due to his Parkinson's.
Melody listened to our plight and comforted me like a mother. Despite not knowing us from Adam, she jumped on a bus from Genadendal to Gauteng to come to our aid. Ever since, she has lovingly helped take care of Danie - even though this means she's stuck on the other side the country, far from her family, until such a time as Danie is able to move to the Western Cape.
While being our Good Samaritan, heavy rains brought a wall of Melody's one-bedroom house on a WC farm crashing down. Currently, she can't even visit her loved ones down here because her house is uninhabitable. Melody is 52 years old and has been caring for the elderly since 2011. She is a single mother (with one child still in high school) and a grandma, and she has dependents. Her brother died January 13th. In short, she really, REALLY, needs a break! Any donation - no matter how small - is one brick closer to a dry and safe home for this deserving carer.
