I started running just over a year ago, as I thought it would be an exciting challenge - I have done 2 half marathons, 3 marathons and 2 ultra marathons so far this year. There's a lot of time to think while running (it helps the time pass) - and I started thinking about how I could use this passion to help others. I found out about Barking Mad when my wife and I were looking to adopt a dog. Needless to say we went looking for one dog and came home with two (Gabana now Harper, and Suki) Barking Mad staff was friendly and really care about every animal they have. I left the shelter thinking, 'Maybe I can help.'

 Clip from their website: www.barkingmad.co.za Too often perfectly healthy and happy pets are euthanized due to the criminally high numbers of abandoned and abused animals that are rescued on a daily basis. All these innocent victims need is a home, lots of love and a chance at leading a full and happy life. With a small donation you can be instrumental in helping us rescue and take care of an abandoned animal. Allowing us to help them once again stand the chance at finding a loving family and a place to put their paws up. It is generous people like you who make this life saving program a possibility. Please find it your heart to offer one of our doggies a chance to find their forever home.

 Therefore I would like to dedicate my running the 2012 Comrades Marathon to raise funds and awareness for Barking Mad, and the animals they so selflessly help.
