MiWay Wally Hayward Marathon 2023 

Our athletes are making their run count.

Please join us and shuffle, walk and sprint through the 10km, 21km or 42km event while raising funds and awareness for children with cancer. There is also a kids dash for children wanting to support children – (3 – 10 years old) – and the fun 1km for our tiny humans. 

Raise R1000 and receive a limited addition pair of Versus Running Socks. On race day we ask that you wear something green to show support for our foundation and to remember a little boy named Jed (the son of our founder Bonni) – his favourite colour was green, and MAY is also brain cancer awareness month. 

The mission of Rainbows and Smiles is to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child or children of that family is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness such as cancer.

In addition, Rainbows and Smiles encourage childhood cancer awareness to educate in the hope of promoting early detection. Rainbows and Smiles mobilise across racial boundaries, amongst the physically challenged, beyond class, religion, cultural and gender and we are guided by democratic principles. Rainbows and Smiles principles include creating hope, smiles and relief for families and caregivers of children with cancer.

Most people are not aware that when cancer attacks a child, it attacks a family. Once cancer has attacked, it is not long before many hard-working families begin to lose everything because they have a choice to make, stay home to care for their child and family or leave to go to work. They make this decision with a heavy heart knowing that whatever choice will have an adverse effect on their family.

The organisation was founded by a mother of a child with brain cancer as a way of paying it forward! Your assistance and help means so much to us but even more to these children and their families fighting cancer.
