"Class of 2012"

"The Star Thrower" is a classic story of the power within each one of us to make a difference in the lives of others. I'm sure you know it... it's a classic from way back (when Hennie was young)...A young man was on a beach throwing starfish back into the sea when quizzed about the  futility of his actions, he replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die." The obvious was then pointed out to him, there were miles and miles of beach and there were starfish all along every mile, he couldn't possibly make a difference. His response...bending down, he picked up another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "I made a difference to that one!"

For the “Class of 2012” this story is a powerful reminder that, no matter how bleak the rural education is, we CAN make a difference in the life of a rural scholar. Support the Freedom Challenge Scholarship Fund and create opportunities for a better education.
