Hi Everyone!

Our club is trying to make history by being the first duet in SA to enter World Masters Champs Ever! Funds go toward Entry fees, flights and accommodation.

We've already hosted a Quiz night, a bingo night, had a raffle with 7 fabulous prizes, and done an artistic swimming demo...though our local circle of supporters is small, they have given as much as they can to support!

So to get us over the finish line, we need to widen our net. No amount is too small and we appreciate every cent!

It was a case of Love-at-first-swim for Christy. After a 12 year career as a professional ballet dancer, retiring in 2007 due to injury and then being told to avoid all impact exercise, artistic swimming (known to most of us as synchronised swimming) was a total Godsend!

When Barracudas Artistic Swimming club started their Masters programme in May 2022 she was the first one to sign up. - “If you'd said to me 18 months ago that I would take up an Entirely New sport (at the age of 48), and would now have World Masters Championships in my sights, I would have raised an eyebrow at you and then burst out laughing...but here we are!!” she says.

Emma, on the other hand, started synchro at age 5 and was the South African Individual and Duet National champion for 11 years. She's represented SA at 5 World Championships in both duet and team events, and twice swam Olympic qualifying routines. She’s been an Artistic swimming coach for 12 years now and has also recently qualified as an International G-judge. Over and above all that she also edits the club’s competition music as well as designing and making the Barracudas competition swimming costumes - a truly multi-talented (and hard working!) young lady!! She recently made the transition to Masters, but until now has not had a swimming partner to compete with.

Thanks to Emma and head-coach Sue’s enthusiasm, drive and commitment, the pair are hoping to enter two duet routines, and two solo routines for Emma at World Champs in February; becoming the first South Africans Ever to compete in this International event.

The international Artistic swimming community is quite large, and each year at World Masters Championships about 350 swimmers compete from various countries. Swimmers range in age from 26 to over 80, and have as varied experience as do Emma and Christy.

They are hoping to use this platform to raise awareness for the sport in South Africa as an option for swimmers of all ages and backgrounds and grow participation in this visually beautiful sport across the board.

Get BSSC Masters Duet to Doha 2024 Campaign

Help our club make history by becoming the first South African duet to enter the World Masters Championships!

We've hosted events and received support from our local community, but we need your help for entry fees, flights, and accommodation. No amount is too small.

Meet our dynamic duo, Christy and Emma, who are passionate about artistic swimming. Christy, a former ballet dancer, found solace in synchro after a 12-year career hiatus.

Emma, a seasoned synchro athlete and coach, aims to compete internationally.
