So many people have been empowered by Bennie's work, loyalty, kindness and twinkly eyed humour. Now, he really needs help.

He suddenly contracted an extreme and rare brain infection that nearly killed him and has left him severely impaired. The full prognosis will only be clear after 3 weeks of medication, and the side effects are risky, adding further expenses and concerns.

We are friends of Bennie's, holding hope of full recovery and creating a loving network of support. He faces astronomical medical costs including weeks of isolated ICU, specialists, regular sonars and MRIs, OT and rehab for a minimum of 3-6 months. His medical aid is currently in discussion about supporting him, but the costs are rising rapidly. He also contracted an additional 'hospital superbug'.

Bennie will not be able to work for some time and his family is stretched by the complexities and emotional energies required. The immediate concern is the medical and care expenses. Please help in any way you can. The target may seem extreme, but is based on the current predicted medical costs. (If the Medical Aid covers anything it will be the hospital costs and the target figure will drop, but he will still require intensive daily interventions from a variety of specialists plus full time care, therapies and medication for a minumum of 3-6 months after leaving the hospital.)

So many of us have experienced Bennie's support and generosity. In the spirit of reciprocity, may this call ensure it returns tenfold - wrapped in vibrant, healing love!
