Arup's founding commitment to do socially useful work continues to shape our commercial work today and forms the beating heart of our investment in community engagement.

Arup staff are campaigning to raise funds to purchase a Kuduwave remote audiology testing device to enable large scale audiology testing in Gaza. The Gift of the Givers local teams in Gaza has been seeing many instances of children who have hearing issues that affect their quality of life and ability to learn in school.

Kuduwave is a technology that was developed in South Africa to enable remote hearing tests to be done in rural areas. Typically, you would need to go into an audiology test centre to get access to this testing, but with this technology, the ideal testing conditions are created remotely through the Kuduwave device.

This technology is currently being deployed in South African rural areas where large numbers of children and elderly people are tested who typically would not be able to access testing.

Candidates who have significant hearing loss are identified for further detailed assessment and are fitted out with hearing aid devices if required.

The testing device costs around R70,000 (3,500 GBP). This is the fundraising target required to kick off this beneficial initiative.

The organization plans to train unemployed university graduates to assist with conducting assessments in areas of need. Funds raised will be deposited directly into the Gift of the Givers account for the purchase of the device.

Arup will be match-funding a portion of all funds raised.
