On Sunday 12 October, an intrepid group of Accelerators are doing the Gun Run. You should recognise some of the return runners from last year - Roan, Callum, Nicl, Kristina and Fran - who are joined by new recruits: Chanel, Elena, Marle, Sheldon, Angie and Nedine. 

This motley crew are embarking on this mission with the aim of raising money for Afrika Tikkun.

Afrika who? 

The official line is: "Founded in 1994, Afrika Tikkun empowers communities through the development of productive generations through a Holistic Development Model." 

Basically, what this means is: Afrika Tikkun doesn't believe in giving a starving man a fish, but rather in giving him a fishing rod and teaching him how to fish. This is done through the various programs on offer at the Afrika Tikkun centres located in areas where there is a need for the community to be uplifted. The programs enable the community to develop skills needed to find work (computer literacy, trade specific skills development, CV creation), provide support for those who are working (creches and afterschool care) and ensure that the community is equipped for a basic standard of living (parenting and nutrition courses, as well as social welfare, relief programs, government grant applications, access to medical help). Afrika Tikkun

Afrika Tikkun (AT) was founded in 1994 with the goal of developing and uplifting young people in disadvantaged communities resident in the Republic of South Africa. With like-minded partners, Afrika Tikkun aims to end child poverty and youth unemployment through a holistic approach that begins in early childhood and ends with productive adults accessing the economy. Our approach provides all-inclusive care (nutrition, health and social) services and helps SA’s youth achieve success with a model called Cradle-to-Career 360°, which has earned Afrika Tikkun recognition for being one of the most impactful organisations in South Africa. We operate from four centres in Gauteng and one in Cape Town.
