Chasing Spanish Dreams Campaign

In October last year, Havanna received a invitation from BT Football academy, to join their trials for the upcoming tour in Spain and she was successful.

This opportunity means that she, together with a squad of +/-15 girls will be representing BT Football South Africa in the upcoming tournament in Madrid, Spain, in April 2024

When they are there, they’ll be competing against other countries but the opportunity lies in the possibility to be scouted. If this happens, the invitation would be to come back and then be at that academy for the next 6 months and then .. the opportunities are endless.

So let me give you some Background about our go-getter daughter..

Havanna started playing at a very young age and has been quite sport orientated all around. At the age of 4 she started playing softball for Tanta Sport, Age 6 she started playing soccer and by age 8, she started playing tag rugby, but her love for soccer surpassed all other sports

Her accolades (for soccer only) includes

  • 2011 dedicated player of year Under 7 (West End United)
  • 2013 Player of the Year (West End United)
  • 2018 Most improved player (Avendale Soccer Club)
  • 2021 Supporters Player of the Year (Avendale Soccer Club)
  • 2022 Spectators player of the year (Avendale Soccer Club)
  • 2022 CTTLFA Knockout Champions Runner Up Award (Avendale Soccer Club)
  • 2022 Player of the Year (Alexander Sinton High School)
  • 2022 Best mid-fielder (Alexander Sinton High School)
  • 2022/2023 – Scouted to play for Hellenic at Hellenic FC

Her love for sport extended from a tiny munchkin, through her schooling years and developed to where she is now studying Sport Management and Exercise and also coaches Tag Rugby at some Primary schools

For this tour, each girl however has to raise R48 000. This covers, flights, airfare, accommodation and Visas.

It’s a huge amount of money to raise in a very short space of time and given that we are a 1 income house only, we have been battling. But God is Good and we are faithful

We have had a few fundraisers and received a few donations but still need to raise R40 000 by March 2024 (end date being February 29th, 2024)

As her parents, we are immensely proud of Havanna and of her accomplishments but more than that, her perseverance to push herself, no matter what.

As her mom, I look back at her accolades and can only say thank you to God for the people and coaches he put on her path and also her faith community and priests that pray for her always and not forgetting her brother, Ethan, that has been by his sister’s side through it all.

Oneday, when she is established, she will pay forward what was sown into her, for another child to reach her/ his achievements .

From our family to yours, a massive thank you for sharing and sowing into her future and for being part of her journey to reach this dream

God bless,

Julian and Tina Meyer
