The Michael John Connor Institute

Michael John Connor, known as “Baby Michael”, had severe brain damage; spastic cerebral palsy and blindness as a direct result of abuse inflicted by his parents at the age of 3 months. Mickey was born on the 11/07/2003 and passed away on 16/10/2011. His parents were Bradley Connor and Melinda Marshall who were recently sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for their crimes on Baby Mickey. Their punishment only came 8 years after their crime.

After Mickey's passing, we decide to open The Michael John Connor Institute in his honour and to keep his memory alive. The Institute was established in March 2012, we plan to care and offer love to many, many more special angels in the years to come. Our goal is to raise R2 million to purchase a property to use for the day-cares and the children's home. Any donations received will help us reach this goal.

Our vision is to help babies and children that have been abused, neglected or abandoned. We focus on children that were born either with a disability or their disability was caused by the neglect and/or abuse. We will take on babies from birth to children of 7 years. Currently there are NO dedicated facilities of this kind, for this age group on the East Rand. Our friends from the three other children's homes on the East Rand can only accommodate disabled children from the age 3 upward.

All other similar homes based in the Johannesburg and Alberton regions are full and have up to 18 months waiting periods. We are a registered Non-Profit Organisation Special Needs Day-care, “Giggles Day-care," to help parents that are battling to care for their child on their own or are battling to place their special needs children in their siblings regular crèche or pre-school.
