Support for Albies family Campaign
On Monday, 29th January 2024, we welcomed our little boy, Albie, into this world. Seemingly healthy and surprisingly content, we were overjoyed to welcome him into our lives. Three days after he was born, we left the hospital behind us and introduced Albie to his new home in Kommetjie. Our family finally felt complete.
On our second day at home, we noticed Albie slept for most of the day; however, we were sure this was just what a newborn baby does. Little were we to know what was coming and after a rough second night at home, we had to rush Albie to the closest hospital as he was not looking well. What followed was the most terrifying morning one could imagine. But thanks to the most amazing paediatrician on duty that morning, we managed to save our boy, and he was soon transferred to the neonatal ICU, where he would remain on life support until further notice.
Top cardiologists were consulted on the case and after several tests, scans and echograms, Albie was diagnosed with DiGeorge syndrome. In Albie's case, this manifested in the form of various CHDs (Congenital heart defects). More specifically, an Interrupted Aortic Arch, a large VSD (ventricular septal defect) and underdeveloped aortic valves. All of these defects combined meant that surgery on Albie was deemed impossible due to the nature and complexity of his anatomy.
Albie passed away in our arms, skin to skin. The same way he was brought into this world just a week before.
We have been asked by so many people what they can do to help us through this difficult time. Although there is nothing anyone can do to bring our boy back to us, we are now faced with several unexpected and rather significant medical bills that are not covered by our health care. As a result, we have set up this page to try and raise some money to help cover these unforeseen hospital bills and to help fund the assistance we will need to begin moving forward.
Our small family has experienced much love from our friends, family and acquaintances. We cannot begin to express our gratitude for all the love and support and the messages, meals and flowers received. If you would like to help us going forward, we ask that you please make a small financial contribution to assist with our unforeseen medical expenses. A small contribution will go far to help get us back on our feet.
We are forever grateful to you all who have helped ease the pain.
Love Emily, Stuart, Sonny and Albie.
