About BackaBuddy
What do we do?
BackaBuddy is a crowdfunding platform designed to help individuals raise funds for causes they are passionate about. These causes can range from registered non profit organisations to individuals who need funds for a variety of reasons including medical procedures, studies etc. We believe in the power of individual philanthropy and peer to peer giving through technology. Anyone can become a Charity Champion by creating a crowdfunding campaign on BackaBuddy and collecting donations in support of their favourite cause.
Our background
In 2007 BackaBuddy was started by Allan John Elrick Beuthin, who dedicated the last 8 years of his life to assisting charities and individual causes raise large amounts of monies. His work with BackaBuddy was a far cry from his life as a former stockbroker and banker. He brought his considerable people and business skills to an entirely new world of charities and causes. Under his leadership the platform reached the R21 Million raised mark shortly before his sudden passing on the 28th February 2015 after a weeks struggle with leukemia.
Shortly after Allan's passing BackaBuddy was bought by Patrick Schofield. Being the co-founder of Thundafund - South Africa's leading online Crowdfunding Platform, Patrick saw the potential in purchasing BackaBuddy and growing it into a platform that will continue to encourage individual philanthropy and peer to peer giving.
