Light to Read Campaign
We empower young learners to continue their education by supplying solar lights for use after dark.
Our aim is simple: to strengthen the educational foundation
of young learners in South Africa's primary schools. We believe that instilling
a love for reading early on lays the groundwork for a lifetime of learning.
That's where the Light to Read program comes in. We provide each young learner with a solar-powered light, giving them an extra 6-8 hours of light every day. This light is especially crucial after dark when many households lack consistent energy sources. By extending study time into the evening, we help bridge the gap in educational opportunities.
Since 2016, our initiative has made a significant impact:
- Over 10,000 learners directly benefited, and many many more indirectly benefited from this light
- 70%+ of learners come from unemployed families
- 65% have no access to paid light sources after dark
Funded by generous individuals and corporate partners, our program goes beyond just providing light—it's about changing lives.
Our mission now is to reach a further 10 000 Learners
in half the time (3.5years). We believe this is possible, and have the
confidence to strive for this goal, but it is only possible with Partners. Partners
who believe in what we are trying to do, Sponsors who believe that education at
a primary school level will change lives and Sponsors who believe in helping
families and communities and want to do more.
