Help Charlotte Live Out Loud 52547 Campaign
Help Charlotte Live Out Loud!Charlotte was born with moderate to severe hearing loss. We didn't notice it at first, but as she grew older we started to suspect that something was wrong.
It was when we noticed her making strange noises and not responding to our voices that we decided to get her hearing tested.
Charlotte was 7 months old when she went under anaesthesia for the first of many hearing tests.
The results showed that our little one couldn't hear us at all. The songs we learnt to sing and the gentle words of comfort we whispered at night weren’t reaching her.
Our hearts were broken and we felt unsure of her future, but only for a while. Charlotte’s joyful glow and love for life kept us going!
We started our journey with CHAT where we found the support and care we needed to help Charlotte. We truly have an amazing team.
After many tests, she finally got to hear her dad say “Hello beautiful” when she was fitted with hearing aids at 9 months old.
Since then, this fierce, friendly, rambunctious baby girl has blossomed.
She started loving music, humming, and dancing with her daddy. She’s hitting milestones like a champion, and after lots of hard work from Mom and Dad, she’s quickly learning spoken words and sign language.
But, even though Charlotte is learning lots of words, she hasn’t been able to say the one we’ve all been waiting for, “mama”.
Further testing has revealed that her cochlear hair cells are damaged, which means she can’t hear incidental sounds and lower tones, like the “m” in “mama” or “oo” in “peekaboo!”.
Charlotte’s doctors helped us to understand that bilateral Cochlear implantation surgery will allow her to hear the sounds that she is missing.
With the bilateral implants, she will develop like any other child her age, being able to hear every musical note, birds chirping and bees buzzing.
The race is on to raise R250 000 before the procedure on 9 May 2023 to open Charlotte’s world and help her hear life to the fullest.
Please share and help us get Charlotte’s story out there <3 <br>
If you would like to contribute to Charlotte’s Cochlear implant surgery, you can do so here on her BackaBuddy page.
Charlotte’s parents, Tamlyn and Michael, would like to thank you so much for your help, love, and support! It means more to us than we can ever explain. Charlotte will be able to hear fully with her Cochlear Implants and your contribution will help make that possible!
