Empower My Psych Journey Fund Campaign

I am a 20-year-old BA in Psychology student at Wits University in urgent need of funding. I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea for assistance as I navigate a challenging chapter in my academic journey. I am a passionate Psychology student entering my third year, driven by a deep desire to contribute to our understanding of the human mind and behaviour. I have a potential scholarship for the 2024 academic year, but I must first settle my historical debt to register for 2024.

Choosing Psychology as my field of study wasn't merely a decision based on interest but a calling that aligns with my life's purpose. I am passionate about understanding the complexities of the human mind. Despite the challenges, I have persevered, working tirelessly to excel academically. I am pursuing Psychology with unwavering dedication because I'm passionate about mental health, the study of the mind holistically and contributing to the well-being of individuals and communities. The reason I've chosen this path is not just for personal growth but also to play my part in the mental health sector. I chose purpose over what was readily available, and I don't regret it.

Unfortunately, the path I've chosen comes with financial challenges. Unlike the more commercially driven degrees that I could have opted for, Psychology lacks the funding opportunities and bursaries that could alleviate the burden. I consciously decided against taking the easier road, opting for a degree that resonates with my true calling and makes a meaningful impact.

I was a brilliant student throughout school. My single mother of 5 has been so amazing in setting us up for success by sacrificing all to give us the best education foundation and support to get bursaries for Varsity. Unfortunately, I was faced with a sad reality with close to no bursaries for psychology.  I forged ahead with my destined journey towards becoming a groundbreaking clinical psychologist. I could have gone for a commercial degree, which I would have gotten a bursary for. Despite my dedication and hard work, financial constraints have hindered my progress. I have been unable to secure a bursary, facing the harsh reality that funding opportunities for my Psychology degree are limited. As a result, I find myself burdened by a historical debt that jeopardizes my ability to register for the crucial third year of my studies.
