Historic Debt Campaign
My name is Mongezi, a graduate student at the University of Stellenbosch. I was raised in a family of two, my mother and I. When I was still in school, it was manageable for my mother to afford household necessities and nurture me. However, coming to university expenses became too high, leading to my mother being unable to afford my tuition and res fees. As an individual from Soweto, coming to Stellenbosch University was a huge achievement for me. Not only did I get the opportunity to access quality education but I was exposed to and experienced a better quality lifestyle in terms of emotional and health wellness.
Being part of the Stellenbosch community allowed me to impart this knowledge to my community back in Soweto as well as try to assist in encouraging the youth about the importance of education. In High school, I was part of Kutlwanong Promaths. When I came to Stellenbosch, I joined the Alumni Society and I then became Chairperson of the organization for the term 2021/2022. Being part of the executive committee allowed me to not only delegate but also to listen and be an active student of the university.
The experience I received in Stellenbosch encouraged me to be a teacher as I have applied and received a firm offer for PGCE at Stellenbosch University. This will further allow me to spark the bright minds of the youth, push them to reach their full potential, and assist them to access resources I wish I had known about or been exposed to when I was in schoo
