Getting Mhlengi Gwala to the Paris Campaign

Dear Friends, Supporters, and Well-wishers,My name is Mhlengi Gwala, a proud South African para-athlete. As I write this message, my heart is full of gratitude and hope. Looking back to that fateful morning of March 6, 2018, when I was viciously attacked during a training ride in Durban, I realize how far I have come. The attack, which left me severely injured, was not just a test of my physical strength but also of my spirit. But here I am, transformed, resilient, and more determined than ever.

I cannot express enough gratitude to each of you who supported my 2020 BackaBuddy campaign, which raised an overwhelming R764,000 towards my wellbeing, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and even helped build a house for my mother. Your kindness was a source of light, during one of the darkest times of my life, and will never be forgotten as long as I live. You have encourage me to keep GOING!Now, at 32, as I prepare for The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, I am reaching out again.

This time, for a dream that goes beyond personal goals – to represent our beautiful nation of South Africa on one of the world's biggest stages and to show the world the power of perseverance. The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where I will compete in the Para triathlon, symbolize not just a sporting event but a celebration of human spirit and endurance.

To turn this dream into reality, I have launched this campaign to fund the purchase of a Speed Concept SLR 7 bike, priced at around R195,000.This bike, the Speed Concept SLR 7, is more than just a piece of equipment; it's an aerodynamically designed carbon triathlon bike built for incredible speed and seamless integration.

Every component, from its lightweight aero frame and the ride-smoothing IsoSpeed, to the state-of-the-art fuel and hydration system, is crafted for peak performance.Should this campaign successfully raise funds beyond the cost of the bike, I plan to allocate the additional finances towards covering the extensive expenses associated with competing at an elite level.

These costs include travel, accommodation, participation in intensive training camps, nutrition, and professional coaching.My journey to the Paralympics is not just mine but ours. Your support means the world to me and will be instrumental in helping me to fly the South African flag high in Paris, inspiring others to chase their dreams, no matter what life throws at them.
