2024 ISA Longboard World Champs Campaign
I spent the first part of my life being dragged by my father to various longboarding competitions around the Cape Peninsula. I would enter these competitions just because it was better than hanging on the beach in the wind and sand.
After university I got a job at Billabong in J-Bay and because I had no friends I spent the majority of my lonely free time at Lower Point trying to hit the nose. It wasn’t my aim to be pro or anything, I just needed something to do. But that year at SA Champs I surprised myself and made a few heats.
Fast forward to 2023 when I decided that I would, just for once, really apply myself and try to make the South African team. I longboarded more, worked on my surfing a bit and earned a second place at the 2023 South African Championships.
As a result, I’ve been invited to take part in the 2024 ISA Longboarding World Championships in El Salvador from the 18th - 25th of April.
Here I am, the first Springbok in my family, preparing to represent South Africa at my first World Champs.
I feel incredibly proud to be able to represent my country on an international stage and I’ll work hard to do the best I possibly can, but I need your help getting there.
Between flights, board travel fees, equipment and accommodation, the expenses of getting to El Salvador are exorbitant but I know that I can rely on my community to back me.
I thank you in advance for your support & messages of encouragement.
Love,
Marishka
