Path to becoming a psychologist Campaign

There is a lot of vulnerability that comes with putting oneself out there for the consequence of certain prejudice, good or bad, is inevitable. I have taken all my strength in putting aside my pride that so protects me from this judgement to blatantly reveal that my perceived persona does not actually align with my true self which is that I am a person who is in need of assistance. So I wear my heart out on my sleeve.

Hi, my name is Lukholo Mazibuko, an aspiring Psych student at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, who is in need of your help.

Embarking on my final year as an undergraduate student is a thrill words cannot capture. It's a step closer for me to fulfil my purpose to passionately serve my community as a clinical psychologist. All these two years later, as I ponder on my growth, I recognise that my time here has solidified that I will be a leader, a change-maker and an advocate for the small bracket of psychologists that reside in our country. Becoming a local leader to fight against the crusade of job unavailability for aspiring psychologists like myself, advocating for equality in the research department to be enriched by knowledge from black persons especially concerning matters of treating clients based South African customs instead of Westernised traditions and combining my passion for South African Psychology will not be possible unless my remaining debt is settled to grant me access to register.

2020's COVID pandemic stripped my father's business apart and my family and I have settled all we can through savings. I have continuously, since first year, been searching for a bursary/scholarship to aid me with my fees but I have been unsuccessful despite my outstanding academic merit.

Despite my stressful personal situation, I have ensured my presence at Wits is known. I have successfully achieved a place in  the top 15% of students in my course in first year, attained 6 Certificate(s) of First Class Awards, and I am a Top 10 academic candidate recognised at Jubilee Hall.

Assisting me to complete my degree is investment-worthy because I have the potential to affect many South Africans who do not feel as though someone has their back and is looking out for their interests concerning their health. We all need someone in someone in our corner fighting for us, and I believe that I am that person to leave a lasting legacy.

Registration closes on 9 February 2024. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated.

May God continue to bless you abundantly.
