Save Westridge Tennis Stadium Campaign

Ethekwini Tennis Association/Westridge Stadium staff will go on short time from 1st February. We will close down completely at the end of February 2024. Westridge Stadium employs 11 full time staff members, is the home to the provincial association KZN Tennis, and Tony Jackson Sports shop. The strongest tennis development programme in the country has now ceased and the safe haven we created for all the kids from nearby Cato Crest, Mayville and Chesterville will be a thing of the past. Coaches who use our venue will have to find alternative venues and schools/clubs will not be able to play leagues here. Our venue is utilised for over 20 tournaments in the year and there is nowhere else in KZN that can host these tournaments as they need 15+ courts. We have little soccer kids playing on our grounds, church groups hold sermons, fitness groups use stadium stairs – all this will come to a halt.
We applied to council in Jan 2023 to erect an advertising signboard which will generate the income we desperately need to survive. We have followed all the correct channels and protocols and paid the necessary application fees. This application is for a new signboard to replace a signboard we had on our property for over 15 years.
Time and funds are not on our side and we are making a huge appeal to you, our community and Ethekwini council, to expedite the approval of the advertising signboard application. We are appealing for funding from our community to sustain us until this signboard is up.
In the event that approval is not given soon, the largest and oldest iconic tennis facility in KZN will cease to exist.

Don't stop the good work, scary that the eThekwini municipality does not assist with funding given the community outreach that is given, kids taken off the streets. Don't stop the good work.
