Help me hear the world better Campaign
Hearing plays an important role in our everyday lives. Diagnosed at the age of 13, I had no idea of how hard it will be. No one talks about how much hearing loss can affect someone young, how hard it is for them to socialize. A frequent question asked of me is, “How does it feel when you don't have your hearing aids on?” My Answer is never 100% honest because in reality it runs a little deeper than ‘Just quite’. When I first started wearing hearing aids, I needed to wear two.
The older I got, the more expensive hearing aids became and the more my hearing loss got worse. At this current age I am wearing one hearing aid that a good friend had donated. This has changed my life a lot. Work meetings are nerve wrecking, important conversations are scary to have, the fear of misplacing your batteries or having to shut yourself off from the world because asking people to repeat themselves can be annoying at times. With two hearing aids I will be able to hear the world again, get my confidence to socialize back. I will be able to rely less on lip reading, rely less on my friends that help repeat sentences back to me. I would be able to respond correctly to people who are conversing with me. In a nutshell, with two hearing aids I would be whole again.
