The Brandwacht Tree Project Campaign
I’ve been working with my cousin in South Africa to help fundraise for The Brandwacht Game Reserve and their tree nursery. The reserve was established in 2018, and is being reclaimed from farmland. Their aim is to assist the rehabilitation of the area to promote natural occurring wildlife as well as help with climate change, all while helping the local Brandwacht community by creating part-time jobs, which hopefully become permanent. The community members can help to plant the trees but also can be taught how to grow them. Seeds will be collected from November to March and then the community grows them in their own gardens until they are one year old. Upon reaching the year old age they can be purchased back from the community. This will allow mothers, especially single mothers to earn a passive income from their own grown trees. This project therefore addresses environmental as well as social outcomes. The ultimate aim is to plant 1000 additional trees to what has already been planted. The funds go directly to the Game Reserve to purchase and nurture tree seeds until they are ready to be planted. The trees bought from directly from suppliers are 2 - 3 years old, as they have a better chance of survival. One tree (depending on the type) costs around €25 - €50 (500 - 1000 ZAR).Connected Campaigns
