HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Herberg Children's Home was established during the flu epidemic of 1918. During 1980 new buildings were occupied. We are a multi-racial institution currently providing shelter to 122 boys and girls who are accommodated in 7 housing units. The pre-school sections accommodate the babies and toddlers up to 6 years.
Our Staff members are well qualified, skilled, enthusiastic people giving their all to deliver an excellent, quality service. Our teamwork is incredible and we all strive to create a safe home and environment for these traumatised children and to give them the opportunity to build a new life.
FUNDING REQUIRED
We need additional funding to cover all our daily needs:
The Herberg Children's Home needs R5,000,000.00 per annum just to cover our daily needs. We receive a state subsidy of R2,400,000.00 per annum but we are responsible to get the shortage of R2,600,000.00 through fundraising to cover our normal day-to-day expenses.
Our major expenditure consists of the daily needs of 122 children from birth to 18 years of age. (75% coloured/black and 25% white). We are responsible to pay all their school expenses i.e. school wear, sports and for recreational activities as well. Staff salaries, transport, fuel, municipal services, food and groceries, toiletries, cleaning products, clothes and linen, the maintaining of the buildings, vehicles etc. are also included.
