School fees for Hlum Campaign
Hlumisa will be stuck in the Eastern Cape unless she can raise the funds needed for her 2024 school fees at Y2K College in Cape Town. Please consider helping to make this possible.Hlumisa grew up in a house in Pinelands under the care of Linawo Children's Home, where I used to work. Although the organisation had to officially close in 2016, Hlumisa and the younger children remained in care with a caregiver in the house. Unfortunately, in June 2022, this caregivers health declined so that Hlumisa and another young girl were unexpectedly and traumatically moved to family that they did not know. Hlumisa now stays with her sister in Khayelitsha. Her sister struggles to provide for the two of them, while also supporting family in the Eastern Cape.
Hlumisa has recently passed Grade 10 at Y2K College. She is currently in the Eastern Cape for the Christmas holidays under the care of her grandmother, while her sister is working in Cape Town. Hlumisa needs funds to cover her school fees for 2024 in order to be able to return to Cape Town. If not, she will be forced to stay in the Eastern Cape where she will need to find a rural school to complete her matric in isiXhosa. She's only ever attended English medium schools.
Hlumisa has handled the changes and heartaches with courage and steadfastness. And despite the turmoil, she has continued to work hard at school and make the most of the opportunities that she has. Please consider helping Hlumisa to finish her schooling in Cape Town, with her sister and friends around her.
