In 2018, our world turned upside down when our daughter was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a rare and debilitating illness. For four years, she battled excruciating pain, confined to a bed, unable to walk or eat. We watched helplessly as her life slipped away, until we found a glimmer of hope in a doctor in the USA who offered treatment.

With the kindness of strangers, we embarked on a fundraising journey to take her to the USA for treatment. A year of intensive care saw remarkable progress as she regained much of her physical health. However, the journey hasn't been without its challenges.

Remission is not linear, and we've encountered numerous setbacks since returning to South Africa. Mounting medical debts have become an overwhelming burden for our family, compounded by unforeseen emergencies like our son's recent school accident, leading to extensive surgeries.

Our daughter continues to fight. Despite being a million times better than before, she battles the aftermath of her illness daily. CRPS, hEDS, severe scoliosis, hiatus hernia, gastroparesis, intercranial hypertension, and PTSD are just a few of the conditions she bravely confronts.

Even with progress, her journey is far from over. Lifelong medications, physiotherapy, and specialized schooling are essential for her quality of life. Basic tasks like eating remain a challenge, as she navigates a diet that won't exacerbate her condition.
