Thank you for the opportunity to tell you about a young man and his dream:

My son, Philip Pienaar, is turning 18 in May this year. He is currently completing his high school qualification, and has been homeschooling since Grade 1.

Philip is a gentle giant with a keen interest in the outdoors. He enjoys an active lifestyle and is much more of a plaasjapie than a city slicker. He also knows his way around the kitchen, because he is always hungry, and loves to prepare tasty, nutricious meals!

Philip's big dream is to pursue a career in Nature Conservation and Safari Tourism. To this end, he wants to enroll in a year-long internship at an accredited Wildlife Management and Hospitality institution next year.

While that poses a massive financial challenge, we would like to empower Philip in some way this year already, and to this end we need your help in three ways:

Firstly, we would like to appeal to any game/ safari farm in the Eastern Cape to offer Philip the opportunity to gain some practical experience in the field during the upcoming March/ April school holidays. (We reside in Middelburg, EC). Philip is willing to work for free if accommodation and meals can be provided.

Secondly, Philip can register with the Field Guide Association of South Africa this year already, and enroll in a course toward an NQF2 Nature Site Guide qualification. This will cost just shy of R3000.

Thirdly, Philip would like to attend a Nature Career Guidance Course with an accredited institution during the winter school holidays. This will cost R7450 plus R1450 transport.

It's hard to ask for help, but it is harder to see Philip diligently chugging away at his schoolwork without being able to give him the hope of pursuing a career in his field of interest. Nothing would make us happier than knowing that this young man can fulfill his calling and make a difference in the world by being who he was created to be.

We do believe in teaching our children the value of personal efforts and hard work. Philip performs chores and tasks in and around the house, (mostly for free, and occasionally gets paid for bigger projects) and earns some pocket money as an assistant tour guide to his step-dad, Gideon, on dinosaur tours around Clarens, Free State.

Any opportunities or contributions toward Philip's future would mean the world to this kind-hearted and humble young man who just needs to know that he is worthy of an opportunity, and worthy of our efforts.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
